In the Community

Ready At Five leads the way and continues to improve the readiness of Maryland's young children through our work in the community: at the state, jurisdictional, and local levels.

  • Statewide Strategy
As co-chair of the Subcabinet's Early Care and Education Committee, Ready At Five continues to push for the statewide implementation of the Achieving School Readiness: A 5-Year Action Agenda for Maryland developed by the Leadership In Action Program, a statewide initiative of the Annie E. Casey Foundation. The Maryland's Early Care and Education Committee's Progress Report outlines the progress of the agenda to date.

  • Jurisdictional Efforts
Ready At Five remains deeply involved in promoting local community efforts to improving school readiness. Thus, Ready At Five facilitated strategic planning in Calvert and Howard Counties and supports the work of the newly created Southern Maryland Leadership In Action Program. Ready At Five is committed to promoting similar Leadership In Action Programs in all of Maryland's jurisdictions, and awarded its 2005 Distinguished Performance Award to the Baltimore Leadership in Action Program.

  • Learning Laboratories
Ready At Five nurtures school readiness through three groundbreaking neighborhood partnership projects or Learning Laboratories in Baltimore City and Howard County. In addition, Ready At Five is piloting a program with innovative companies interested in providing an important benefit to their employees with young children.  The LunchTime! brown bag lunch and learn series helps employees with young children improve their child's school readiness. The promising practices or lessons learned are disseminated throughout Maryland to promote school readiness efforts and encourage the launch of other RA5 Communities.
