MMSR Data
At the start of each school year, teachers use the Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR - a body of standards and an assessment tool) to observe and document the knowledge, skills and abilities of Maryland's more than 60,000 incoming kindergartners. Teachers look at what each child knows and is able to do in seven “Domains of Learning:” Physical Development, Language and Literacy, Social and Emotional Development, Mathematical Thinking, Scientific Thinking, Social Studies, and the Arts. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) annually releases the statewide and jurisdictional data, providing vital information about the school readiness of children.
The MMSR data influence classroom instruction; guide professional development for early care and education (ECE) providers and teachers; promote better communication between school staff and families; increase collaboration and coordination among ECE programs; and support the alignment of ECE and public school programs.
For your convenience, Ready At Five provides the MMSR 2008/09 data in a statewide (Getting Ready 2009) and jurisdictional overview formats (Jurisdictional Overview), as well as customized PowerPoint presentations.
