MMSR Data

At the beginning of each school year, the knowledge, skills and abilities of Maryland's 53,000 incoming kindergartners are individually assessed by their teachers. Readiness is measured according to standards developed by the Maryland State Department of Education in seven key areas, or “Domains of Learning:” Physical Development, Language and Literacy, Social and Emotional Development, Mathematical Thinking, Scientific Thinking, Social Studies, and the Arts.

These measurements, as reported by teachers, make up the school readiness data (also known as the MMSR Data) that the State of Maryland releases each year. The data provide a baseline for understanding our children’s progress in school readiness from year to year, as well as helping teachers revise their curriculum to meet the needs of all kindergarten children. The data is not a reflection of the performance of the public schools.

For your convenience, Ready At Five provides the MMSR 2007/08 data in statewide (Getting Ready 2008) and jurisdictional overview formats (Jurisdictional Overview) and PowerPoint presentations.
